OH,
ADAM
Documentary
(88'), 2009
SYNOPSIS
(short)
Life just outside Paradise, where not angels, but two priests and
a poet are guarding heaven's gate. In
a Romanian village, death
is
symbolically exchanging
its sting for stories and
sweet cakes.
SYNOPSIS
(long)
Did Adam and Eve have a good marriage? At least they didn’t
have
problems with in-laws, on either side... But who died first? Adam or
Eve? Let’s say that Adam, as the first man, was the first one
to pass on peacefully - what was it like for Eve to see
him go through that grand change? Did she expect she would meet him
again, in the garden of all gardens? We’re somewhere in the
outskirts of Eden - in Romania, in
a village on the shore of the Danube. 2000 years ago Romans built
fortresses here. The name of the village, Pojejena, means
„glowing fire“ and „wife”. A
Romanian Baptist pastor and a Romanian Christian Orthodox priest set
the different religious frames around death and afterlife. Baptists
choose the shortest way from the house to the cemetery, while the
Christian Orthodox imagine the soul of the deceased walking around the
house for 40 days after the burial. People have to respect the
institution, but they find a way to ease
their burden and comfort their pain. In the middle of 'nowhere' an
astonishingly powerful common denominator is uncovered,
a link between a village and the vastness of the Universe.
